Climbers Club Helyg car park planning appeal thrown out.

The Ogwen wild ponies can continue to graze undisturbed on Helyg's rough bounds.

The Climbers Club's controversial plans to build a new car park next to the historic Helyg Hut in Ogwen Valley,North Wales appears to have finally hit the buffers.
The original planning application was rejected by National Park planners and was taken to appeal by the club. That appeal was rejected on Thursday by the Snowdonia National Park Planning Committee.
The plans had caused widespread disquiet within the club with many members finding themselves campaigning against committee led plans to construct a new car park which opponents saw as unnecessary and expensive project which would negatively impact on the natural environment surrounding Helyg.
The supporters of the project argued from a commercial perspective that a new car park adjacent to the hut would increase usage and offer a safer alternative to the current site which is located on the opposite side of the busy A5.
It remains an option for the club to look at the opponents preferred choice of redeveloping the existing car park- which at present suffers drainage and access problems-creating an expanded car park with new pedestrian and vehicle access points.
