Well-known for delivering premium quality plants and accessories of exceptional value, Gardening Direct has appointed popular television gardener and presenter Charlie Dimmock as their ‘Face’ and brand ambassador.
Says CEO Stephen Cook “Gardening Direct is delighted to have secured such an experienced gardener and presenter as Charlie Dimmock for our brand ambassador. We know that the business will benefit greatly from her expertise and we are all looking forward to working with her enormously”.
Charlie will be involved in many aspects of Gardening Direct’s activities in 2011. As well as providing on-going, general advice and guidance to customers on how to get the most out of their green space (whether window box, patio, garden or allotment), Charlie will write the introduction to the expanded monthly Gardening Direct catalogues, write and present exclusive seasonal videos on what to do in the garden, write regular articles for the Gardening Direct web site, introduce new plant ranges and individually advise the winners of a major competition on their gardens during a visit.
Gardening Direct is one of the UK’s largest suppliers of plug plants, seeds, bulbs and accessories to the consumer market via mail order and online sales.
Although renowned for their large collection of annual bedding plants, they also offer a wide (and rapidly growing) range of garden gifts and accessories, bulbs, seeds, shrubs, fruit trees and vegetable plants.
Gardening Direct is a division of Flying Brands, the publicly listed, multi-brand home shopping group. Flying Brands started life as Flying Flowers in the1980’s but quickly developed into a home retail business and in 1995 acquired DPA Direct, out of which developed Gardening Direct. Other brands in the group include Garden Bird Supplies, Flying Flowers and Flowers Direct.
One of Britain’s best known and best loved gardeners, Charlie first came to the nation’s attention on the incredibly successful BBC1 programme Ground Force, which ran for eight years over twelve series. Other television successes include River Walks (Meridian 2005/06/07), Chelsea Flower Show (BBC 1999- 2006), Garden Invaders (BBC1 2003/2004), Garden for All Seasons (UK Style 2003), Charlie’s Wildlife Gardens (BBC2 2000), Charlie’s Garden Army (BBC2 1999/2000) and Charlie and the Duchess (BBC12001/2002).
She has also worked in America, presenting a regular gardening slot on The Early Show, filmed in New York for CBS.
Recently Charlie’s career has expanded into new areas and in summer 2010 she toured England as Celia in the sell-out stage production of Calendar Girls. She is currently playing the part of the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella at the Windsor Royal Theatre.
A specialist in designing water features, Charlie trained for four years as an amenity horticulturalist in Winchester and Somerset gaining the BTEC Diploma in Amenity Horticulture (Distinction) and the National Technical Certificate in Turfculture and Sporting Management (Distinction).
