Scottish Power to create world's biggest onshore wind plant.

Scottish Power executives celebrate with Alex Salmond

Scottish Power Renewables have announced a massive increase in the size of its Whitlee Wind Farm in Renfrewshire,Central Scotland.
The plant which already boasts 140 turbines making it the largest wind energy plant in Europe has been given the go ahead by the Scottish government to add another 75 turbines to the site bringing it up to 215.
Simon Christian, UK director of ScottishPower Renewables claimed the site would soon be the largest Wind Power Plant in the world.
Not surprisingly, the grand project has not been well received by conservationists in Scotland where groups like the John Muir Trust and The Ramblers Association have become increasingly alarmed at the pace of industrialisation of the Scottish uplands. Commenting earlier of the Whitelee development,The Ramblers spokesman Dave Morris observed
"Hundreds of giant turbines and their associated electricity transmission lines must not be built on the land of Scotland. We cannot sacrifice the world famous wildness and beauty of Scotland in order to meet the energy demands of southern Britain."
A recent survey of energy production in Scotland found that at times the Whitelee plant was operating at only 7% of it's claimed capacity. Seriously undermining the figures provided by Scottish Power. An not uncommon characteristic of the wind industry's propaganda machine !
