Survey team set sights on new Welsh 'super-peak'

The Welsh surveying team which two years ago discovered 'a new' 2000' mountain on the Nantlle range and who added an extra six feet to Tryfan after fears that the iconic mountain would fall under the magic 3000' mark, have set their sights on neighbouring Glyder Fawr.

The ‘Metric Super League’ is a group of mountains that measure over 1,000 metres in height.  Only four mountains south of the Scottish border are members of this elite club. However, one other mountain comes under suspicion.  The mountain is Glyder Fawr (SH 642579) and its height on Ordnance Survey maps is 999 metres. Can Snowdonia boast the 5th Metric Super Mountain?  Will the course of The Welsh 1000m Peaks Race be changed forever more?  Have Snowdon, Crib y Ddysgl, Carnedd Llewelyn and Carnedd Dafydd a new companion in the upper echelons of the highest mountains in the land?

The answer will be revealed at a special press conference in Betws y Coed on September 21st where G and J Surveys in conjunction with Ordnance Survey, Snowdonia National Park Authority, The National Trust, The Gorphwysfa Club, UK Metric Association and CREAD will announce the survey result of Glyder Fawr .
