Heaven sent at Liverpool's Awesome Walls.
TEN young local climbers have reached the UK final of the British Mountaineering Council climbing competition.The group, from the Awesome Walls Climbing Centre in Liverpool, triumphed in the North West heats and will go to Wolverhampton in June to compete against youth climbers from around the UK. The 10 to make the final were Joanne Pimblett (9), Michael Hopkins (15), Dean Taylor (15), Megan Tripney (14), Olivia Corrigan (14), Charlie Mpetha (13), David Taylor (11), Claudia Corrigan (9), Emily Verry (7) and Elliot Verry (10).
Megan explained how she felt about the success. She said: “I feel really proud to have got through to the national finals and coming in the top three in the North West is a massive achievement. “It is also brilliant for climbers from Awesome Walls to have gained 10 of the 18 places for the North West in the final.
“I first started climbing when I was nine years old and its amazing to think that was six years ago now. “I enjoyed it straight away from the first taster session. There is no better feeling than when you reach the top of a hard climb.”
Dave Douglas, owner of Awesome Walls, Liverpool, said: “We are so proud of everyone that took part in the competition. To have 10 of the kids go through to the UK finals is fantastic as the competition is really tough.
“A lot of them have been coming to the climbing centre since they were four or five years old and it is great to see them do so well.
